BBCC to drive broadband penetration

The Broadband Communication Chamber (BBCC) says its putting down measurers to drive the use broadband penetration in the country to include many Ghanaians who do not have access to broadband.
According to the chamber, improved access to broadband services in the country will strengthening businesses, increase the country’s productivity and cushion Ghana’s economic growth.
Speaking to Elorm Gustav Tamakloe, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BBCC ahead of the upcoming Broadband Ghana Forum, he stated that broadband technologies are driving significant transformation in lots of sectors that are related to development such as health, food security, financial inclusion and education.
He mentioned that it is therefore an undeniable fact that broadband is playing and will continue to play a key role in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Sadly, Ghana is losing out, Ghana is being left behind. With approximately 9.9 million internet users represents 34.7% of the about 29 million population. We can either choose to continue to do nothing or we can seize the broadband opportunity as a catalyst for Ghana’s sustainable socio-economic development,” he noted.
Mr. Tamakloe told the Daily Express that broadband offers reduced travel costs, better access to services, information, partners and customers. It also allow better planning and control of national resources especially energy and water supplies
Meanwhile, the BBCC, an advocacy and lobbying group for the development and expansion of the broadband industry will be organising Ghana Broadband Forum on November 30, 2017 to dialogue on how to revamp the country’s five-year old Broadband Policy.
The forum will afford the stakeholders the opportunity to inject dynamism into the policy and also discuss issues relating to the industry.
He added that the forum would discuss issues such as challenges and barriers to creating a fully digitally enabled Ghana, new technology enablers, Internet of Things (IoT), among others.
The forum being organised by the BCC under the auspices of the Ministry of Communications which is themed as ‘Broadband: The Catalyst for Sustainable Socio-economic Development’ would have series of presentations from key personalities and organisations under the sub-theme ‘True Broadband and the Possibilities It Brings’, he said.
Mr Tamakloe said, “after the forum, the Chamber plans to present recommendations on guidelines and modalities for the complete review and update of the existing policy taking into considerations new entrants and technologies in the broadband industry.

Shortage of weighing cards hit major hospitals in Accra

Checks by this paper revealed that while some of the hospitals have being encountering the shortage for about a year now, others started experiencing it six months ago. In place of the Child Health Record Book (weighing card), the nursing mothers are given a single card on which information of children are recorded on it. Those hospitals identified are the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Korle Bu Polyclinic, Kaneshie Polyclinic, Adabraka Polyclinic and the Ridge Hospital. ABL launches chibuku super in Bolgatanga

Mr. Thomas Nii Ponku, Supervisor in charge of Chibuku Super at ABL told Daily Express that the management decided to launch the Chibuku Super drink in the Upper East region because they’ve realized it is similar to a traditional drink in the region. “Chibuku is like a well developed pito, a traditional drink made from fermented millet or sorghum in the Northern part of Ghana. So the idea is to provide them with similar drink,” he added.
