National Food and Beverages Industrial Fair slated for August 2014

The National Food and Beverages Industrial Fair, an annual event to promote products in the food and beverage industry in Ghana is to be held in Accra next year under the theme: ‘The Food and Beverages Industry: Concerns For the 21st Century’.
The event is being organised under the kind auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) and with collaborations from the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), and the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI).
High among the philosophy for institutionalising this fair is to provide a platform particularly for local and emerging industries to showcase and promote their products, leverage the programme to promote a dynamic platform for all stakeholders in the industry to share success stories, technical advancements and introduce new products as well as address some of the critical challenges in the food and beverages industry.
The fair which is targeted primarily at the emerging local industries shall be opened to manufactures and producers of Alcoholic Drinks, Beer, Beverages, Cereals & Cereal preparations, Confectionery, Canned foods, coffee, Dairy products, Dried & preserved foods, Health Food, Juices, Processed foods, Milk, sauce and Seasoning. Others are Flavours and Sweeteners, Soft Drinks, Tea, Water amongst others. It is also targeted at Food and Beverage processing machines/equipment, packaging and other allied industries.
 Major activities for the fair include elaborate Exhibitions & Demonstrations, Workshops & Seminars for industry members, Dealer/ Distributor Open Day, Product Launches and Market Testing & Product Sampling.
Collaborating institutions as part of reaching out to the industry members will engage in a one-on-one interactions with the members on the need for standardisation to grow the food and beverages industry in the country.
Nana Adwoa Danquah, Event Director said: ‘Our resolve would be more strengthened and enhanced with the partnership and support of the regulatory bodies and other affiliate research institutions in this endeavour to use this Fair as a vehicle to deliberate on requisite measures necessary to ensure that safety and quality standards are adhered to in the industry to make Ghana more competitive on the global market’.
She added: “In our effort to ensure that all the emerging local industries take advantage of the several opportunities that this Fair will offer, we are working closely with our collaborators to provide packages for participants that will build as well as strengthen their delivery capacities”.
She concluded that, the Fair’s Planning Committee will endeavour to promote and market the event on all available platforms to ensure that it is an attractive industry-event destination for the ECOWAS sub-region.
The National Food and Beverages Industrial Fair is an event to be hosted, marketed and organised by RICS Consult Limited, an integrated marketing communications consultancy firm.

Shortage of weighing cards hit major hospitals in Accra

Checks by this paper revealed that while some of the hospitals have being encountering the shortage for about a year now, others started experiencing it six months ago. In place of the Child Health Record Book (weighing card), the nursing mothers are given a single card on which information of children are recorded on it. Those hospitals identified are the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Korle Bu Polyclinic, Kaneshie Polyclinic, Adabraka Polyclinic and the Ridge Hospital. ABL launches chibuku super in Bolgatanga

Mr. Thomas Nii Ponku, Supervisor in charge of Chibuku Super at ABL told Daily Express that the management decided to launch the Chibuku Super drink in the Upper East region because they’ve realized it is similar to a traditional drink in the region. “Chibuku is like a well developed pito, a traditional drink made from fermented millet or sorghum in the Northern part of Ghana. So the idea is to provide them with similar drink,” he added.
