Jumia Ghana wins E-Commerce Company of the Year

Jumia Ghana, an online business platform recently won the E-Commerce Company of the year in the just ended Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) Awards held in Accra.

There was excitement all over as the Africa’s number one online business platform winning that prestigious honour.

Many could not hide their joy as the name ‘Jumia’ professed loudly with a sounding note of victory catapulting all and sundry to their feet to grace the majestic procession of Jumia to the stage.

Jumiawas recognized for its tremendous impact towards Ghana’s E-commerce sector and contributing immensely towards Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It was said to have taken over Ghana’s electronic businesses and leading the support for the vision to convert Ghana’seconomy into a cashless society. Among its enormous attributes,Jumia on countless occasions, have been commended by its sellers and partners for striving for excellence.

The occasion which was graced by His Royal, Kwahuhene, DaasebreAkuamoahAgyepong II and witnessed by dignitaries from prominent institutions such as Ghana Standards Authority, Nielsen Group, Institute of Public Relations, Ghana, National Insurance Commission, Institute of Chartered Accountants, The Ghana Insurers Association, Ghana Association of Savings and Loans Companies and Association of Ghana Industries among others,showcased the fastest growing industries and business sectors in Ghana that are currently doing marvelously well in dictating the rapid pace of Ghana’s economy.

In his fraternal message which was read on his behalf,Kwahuhene,DaasebreAkuamoahAgyepong II added his voice to the clarion call of the CIMG for businesses to ‘use CRM to bring about behavioral change by appealing to the Ghanaian society to resolve to eliminate inappropriate behavior that has worked against ourselves for so long’ – this for which Jumia upholds.

He added that ‘a resolve fueled by patriotism can also contribute in helping solve the menace of galamsey environmental pollution, child trafficking and child labor and many other negative attitudes’. He admonished that Ghanaians should all join in ushering in a new Ghana through a collective behavior change that will be beneficial to all.

The organizers of these awards, CIMG,seeks to lead in the development of world-class marketing professional and practitioners for effective marketing practice in Ghana.It is also aimed at providing world class training and championing the role and value of marketing as critical tool for business development.

The president of the CIMG, Mr. KojoMattah is hopeful that Marketers and corporate Ghana can incorporate into their sales and marketing strategies cause related marketing to help bring about change that works against our progress as a nation.

Aside its capacity to increase Ghana’s economy by 10 per cent in 10 years, Jumia has begun raising the bar as at 2016 by establishing 126 operations across 23 African countries with 90 per cent contribution to Africa’s GDP hitting over four million customer base, thereby maintaining its status as the leading force of online commerce in Africa.

During the awards ranking last Saturday, it was disclosed that Jumia has set the pace for many other growing businesses in Africa and can successfully predict its diverse and increasing presences in other continents, adding that not only has Jumia emerge the beacon of Africa’s online business, but has created over 4,000 jobs avenues in Africa.

BACKGROUND

Jumia, formerly known as Africa Internet Group (AIG) is an online market centre established in June 2012 with its presence in over 23 African countries. Unlike the physical market in Ghana, Jumia has stood the test of time with its outstanding flagship services such as Jumia Travel, Food, Jumia Jobs, Jumia House, Jumia Car, Jumia Market and Services among others.

Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, Jumia among others in the Internet-retail e-commerce industry, has launched a community based online market place, a hotel booking website, an online food ordering site, a real estate platform, an online car dealer market, job platform, classified platform and a B2B logistics provider for online commerce.


Currently, it is the leading force of online shopping retailing in Africa that competitors have to reckon with.

ABL launches chibuku super in Bolgatanga

Mr. Thomas Nii Ponku, Supervisor in charge of Chibuku Super at ABL told Daily Express that the management decided to launch the Chibuku Super drink in the Upper East region because they’ve realized it is similar to a traditional drink in the region. “Chibuku is like a well developed pito, a traditional drink made from fermented millet or sorghum in the Northern part of Ghana. So the idea is to provide them with similar drink,” he added. Mr. Nii Ponku disclosed this when members of the Institute of Finance and Economic Journalists (IFEJ) toured the facility of ABL to acquaint themselves with the expansion project at the factory. He mentioned that after a feasibility study, they realized there is a potential market for the product in the northern part of Ghana
